The Parish Boundaries

The Parish Boundaries are not necessarily the same as the village boundaries. Because parish boundaries can run along roads, fences and even streams it is quite possible that the church nearest you is not actually your parish church. It is important to know which parish you live in if you want to get married in church.  It can also be helpful to know how close the churches are from your location.

There is a quick and easy way to find out in which parish you live and which is your nearest church. The "A Church Near You" parish finder has been developed by the Diocese of Oxford in partnership with other dioceses to help with these queries. Please click on the link below to go to the relevant page on the Oxford Diocesan website:-

www.oxford.anglican.org/communication/general-information/finding-your-parish-just-got-a-lot-easier.html

Follow these instructions:-

  • At the bottom of the page enter your Post Code in the search box and click on "Search Now"

  • This will give you a map showing the area around your Post Code -  click on the "Close" box on the map

  • Then click on your exact location on the map. Your location and the church will then be marked on the map

You will then see the message:-

Your click was in the parish of  ...................   This is in the Diocese of  .................
The next line will give the church's name
Underneath there will be a list of neighbouring churches with the exact distance from your location.
